258361	2004-08-05 04:58:00	Hi I have an old pc which i have inherited which I have been told could be used as mini server/firewall. I want to be able dial up through it (yes i only have a 56k dial up) and access it from any of the computers on our home network (2-3 computers). It would also be good to use for back ups. The pc is pretty old only a p1 or p2 so Can i do this with this type of machine? if so, how? thanks for any help M@TT	M@TT (149)
258362	2004-08-05 05:07:00	Yes it is possible, and the machine should be fine for that type of ooeration, I think there may even be an FAQ on it (don't quote me though), this has been discussed many times here, so you should find some previous posts on it, detailing what you need, what OS you can use (linux version etc),	Nigel Thomson (629)

258364	2004-08-05 07:14:00	This is exactly the same setup i have at home at the mo... 3 clients " if thats what you want to call them"... and one acting as the gateway... just on a dial-up... using Remote Disconection utlilty (free) to control the modem... Someone from here told me about this.... and ICS "Internet connection sharing" setup... My server is only a P2 266 with 128... but it does it fine... the whole setup is about 3 weeks old... but shes coming up on 10 days uptime... busting for an erthernet based ADSl modem... couse than i will have a go at setting up a linux proxy server... but till then it stay as is... couse its working quite well	00falcon (3801)
