| 258265 | 2004-08-04 23:08:00 | Last night I was in Microsoft's home page and they told me I didn't have SP1, (which I thought I did have). Anyway I downloaded it and this morning rebooted the computer as per instructions. Now it goes into a crazy loop where the XP logo comes up and then the screen goes blank and switches off only to switch back on and go thru the same procedure again. I got into CMOS and BIOS but can see nothing out of the ordinary. Any suggestions? |

| 258267 | 2004-08-04 23:17:00 | Mine did that about 3 weeks ago, it locked up forcing me to hit the off button. On restart, it wouldn't even get as far as the windows screen before restarting....endlessly. Had to boot up with XP CD. Then chose install instead of recovery console, and then it checked for a previous windows install. then gave me the option of repairing the original install, which I took, and viola...all up and running again with all programs intact. I also had to do the same for a client which had your symptoms, and used the same method sucessfully. But with this one, I had to re-register XP. |

| 258270 | 2004-08-12 08:45:00 | Hence the saying "If it aint broke don't fix it". I never update anything if everything is working OK. I have only updated to sp1 on one computer because the USB modem required it. A Router does not. I certainly will not be installing sp2. |

Could be a different matter if you were handling confidential material but there is nothing on my computer which should interest anyone. Any important files are encrypted. |
