2004-08-04 22:36:00 | My new Asus Laptop has been showing a "windows is shutting down" message for 11 hours now. Any clues please? | theother1 (3573) | |
2004-08-04 22:39:00 | press the power button, then restart it and see if she then turns off normally. By the sounds of it you have some software refusing to let go of its grip and let the machine shut down,Do the usual, antivirus, spybot, adawere. Its a good idea to boot into safe mode,if it shuts down properly from there then you pretty much know what the issue is.

2004-08-05 02:05:00 | yeah, wouldn't you know it . I shut down within 5 mins of me posting that message, BUT when I started it up again it showed me that I had new Hardware VID_04E6 PID_ 80000010 I assume that is the video card but why is it suddenly showing as new? | theother1 (3573) | |
2004-08-05 02:07:00 | That should say "It shut down". I tried pressing the start up button but, nothing doing.

2004-08-05 10:20:00 | thanks Metla, it seems to be OK now. Last night I had been doing some fairly heavy formatting on Word, and had left Word open for a few hours after I finished. When I came back to it everything was very slow including word and another program I had running. I guessed it was not happy about something. We will see what happens. Thanks, everyone, for your help. Rob
