258858 2004-08-06 11:19:00 Hi there. Can anyone help with a problem with my 8 month old DVD writer (Gigabyte GO-W0404A Dual).

Drive reads CDs OK but as from yesterday, cannot read any type of DVD, either factory or home written, +R, -R, +RW or -RW.

Have tried to update firmware but Windows Flash Program doesn't recognise the drive and states "It's only for (1) DVD DUALGO-W0404A ." which is the drive I have.

Anyone know of this specific problem or have I 'broken' it.

Cheers

258859 2004-08-06 20:24:00 DVD drives have very small tolerances for errors. It could be a number of things, including the lubrication on the laser pickup. As time goes on they clog up with dust and crap and the pickup doesn't slide smoothly. If it's only 8 months old you should send it back to the retailer and get it fixed or replaced, don't waste any time with it.

Thanks
