258800 2004-08-06 06:54:00 I changed the desktop settings around and I did something that I should not have done but I got this :

sal.neoburn.net

The Yahoo page is this PC's homepage, and it kind of overlaps the usual desktop background and is unmovable

My wife's got this Toshiba Satellite laptop, 1.8GHz Celeron, 256 RAM, XP Pro.

258801 2004-08-06 06:57:00 right click the desktop(in a blank area),click properties, themes, then pick windows xp out of the list. metla (154)
258802 2004-08-06 07:02:00 Hmm, how much is it worth.

I'd usually feel inclined to let her put you out of your misery, it makes all the other blokes feel better about their own staus in life.

Ok, right click the desktop > Active Desktop > and uncheck "My Current Home Page" or whatever the wording is in XP (I use win 2k)

258804 2004-08-06 07:05:00 strange, for me resetting the theme changes it all back to windows defaults.

Ricght click, properties again, hit the desktop tab, then the Web tab, then highlight and delete whatever is listed.

258805 2004-08-06 07:06:00 oh yeah,don't panic,and don't let the wife get upset,its an easy fix. metla (154)
258806 2004-08-06 07:08:00 Thanks guys - Murray's advice solved both - the half page and the square.

Now Murray me man - how do I bypass the normal windows login (the standard log on to windows dialog box - there's nothing in the user accounts tick boxes to show how to disable that)

258807 2004-08-06 07:14:00 Don't, it's there for your security and especially important on a laptop. It takes me about 5 extra seconds to logon every morning.

But, if you must, have a look at this (www.theeldergeek.com)

Doesn't work for me like that in 2k, I just head for the Control Panel for that sort of thing.

258808 2004-08-06 08:20:00 yeah but that is how she had it before somebody fiddled around on it. She's got a initial password pre-startup, tho'

A lst question - when I changed the settings for the password, the process created a new adminstrator (my wife's user account was the administrator) and on startup the computer start up on the new "blank" administrator user account. I need to change it to the wife's account permanently.

Please help this dumb bastard and I promise I will shut up after this

:)
