258971 2004-08-07 01:30:00 Sarel have a look around the articles on this webpage (snakefoot.fateback.com), 11 & 12 will be the most usefull ones I think but, I'm not sure what you have done so have a good read. I'm a bit loath to give you instructions here because I don't use XP and rarely set-up/change user settings anyway.

It pays to take notes when changing important configuration settings so that you can a) remeber what you have done for future use/ref, b) un-do it if you have to, c) explain to others what you have done (I'm in my hypocyte mod here BTW).

258972 2004-08-07 01:44:00 Sarel, please be VERY careful dealing with user accounts.

Its VERY easy to delete one and that can (and will) permanently delete all content (documents and files created) that existed under that account name. Businesses have been known to almost go under following such events.

That will cause bloodshed for sure, but something tells me you will already be well acquainted with the hospital services in your area anyway ... but not (yet) as a patient.

Good luck.

258974 2004-08-07 02:21:00 Hi Sarel

Just googled and found this. There are only 2 suggestions on the page.
Maybe of some help, maybe not. Good luck anyway.

Hopefully I'm allowed to enter this URL but sure someone is bound to let me know.

258975 2004-08-07 02:59:00 *sob**actually crying quite loud*

I've renamed the Administrator, rebooted and there it hangs - now for about 15 mins. Can't ctrlaltdel, switch off, nada.

Will you guys at least visit me in the local Hospital from tomorrow onwards?

I've downloaded the nifty proggie that Rob99 talks about - should I disable the Administrator and Enable my wife's user name?

How the hell do I reboot a lappie that does not want to be rebooted.

258976 2004-08-07 03:03:00 why would you do any of that?

All you needed to do was rid the comp of all acounts apart from your wives, then go into control panel and disable fast user switching.

This would have made the machine boot straight through to the desktop with out asking or requining any user input.

See if you can boot into safe mode and sort out the accounts, but i think you may have dug your hole a little to deep already.

The only change I made was to rename the Comp Administrator acc't - so if I reboot to safe mode, should I then delete the other accounts (there's a Administrator one, My wife's one (also Administrator), a Guest one and an .Net one. Delete is not an option in the user accounts - and I will need to delete the other Admin one, shouldn't I?

Fast user switching was disabled from a long time ago

258978 2004-08-07 03:25:00 Like i said, the hole is probbaly been dug to deeply, this started off as just trying to remove web content from the desktop.

The admin account?....did you make that one or is that the default account?....which should have be hidden unteill needed.

Its a bit iffy to give you many recomendations on what to do seeing as this has been going downhill at such a rate,i would say delete all acounts apart from your wives but as your having trouble even getting it to boot that may not be something you should be doing.

So...uh.....I would suggest someone needs to actually physicly look at it..

258979 2004-08-07 03:36:00 No the admin acc't appeared after I disabled the "show the welcome screen" last night and from then on the lappie booted straight onto it every time in stead of to my wife Admin acc't

Haven't done much since then - just renamed the Admin acc't to *rsehole, and now it hangs and hangs .......

(The forthcoming pain will be terrible coz she saw the buggerup just now - and it's one of those thin lips, daggers from the eyes looks - I want my Mama)

258980 2004-08-07 03:45:00 Right - tried to get onto safe mode - got error message the system could not log you on - make sure your user name and domain is correct. In the background I can see a logon screen with user name : Administrator, not the wife's name. I will click OK, change the name to the wife's to log on and then wait for further commands Metla.
