If the keyboard lights flash, you've got 5V. Nothing else really matters in older PCs. :D Make sure the CPU is firmly in its socket. (It might pay to lift it and then press it in again.). |

| 258668 | 2004-08-06 04:21:00 | susan I'd agree with Cyabro... looks like the onboard grafics has failed. can you access bios? can you boot in safe mode? the load on grafics is less, if you know how to get to safe mode - no disrepect intended. I"m inclined to think if you can't get to "safe mode" think like what Cyabro said and think of getting another card ie small pci. can you access bios? |

That is what I am beginning to think but this stuff is a bit beyond my experience . > can you access bios? Nope . > can you boot in safe mode? Nope, nothing at all . All I get is the screen as shown in the pic . > the load on grafics is less, if you know how to get to safe mode - no disrepect intended . I sure do know how to get into safe mode . :-) No offence taken . > I"m inclined to think if you can't get to "safe mode" think like what Cyabro said and think of getting another card ie small pci . I don't have one but will suggest that to the owner . Can you still get small PCI graphics cards for an old PC like this or are they only available second-hand? |

| 258673 | 2004-08-06 04:43:00 | According to the first post, its simply not trying to boot . No beeps . A PCI video card will therefore be unlikely to help . Unless it will at least make POST, its toast . |

| 258674 | 2004-08-06 04:44:00 | Susan, Molten Media (www.molten.org.nz) have second hand parts (with a guarantee) at pretty good prices. They are at 190 Wordsworth St. | Graham L (2) | ||

| 258676 | 2004-08-06 04:48:00 | all you need is a card that someone will "swear" it works - as long as it's pci . the absense of any "beeps" is worrying, but the vid card IS putting out some signal . . . tried running the monitor by itself and seeing what happens? ie same pic as you posted? do you see no post? :) |
