With it playing a demo running in a loop in your shop window. ;-)

Only thing is, you might have to take it home each night - for safekeeping. :p :D

258726 2004-08-06 05:00:00 Well the PC Scotty put it in is here because he's testing the new MB and CPU from Intel - we'd be dumb not to try it out on that. We're also putting it on other machines and vid cards so we won't be benching it on just some fictional uber system.

As per the other thread, I did the timedemo on my defdault work PC which is a P4 2GHz, 768MB RAM with a budget GF4 MX 420 64MB.

At low settings, 640 x 480, with anti aliasing and VSnyc off but other advanced options on I got 10 fps on the second run of the test after installing 56.72 NVidia drivers.

When I turned ALL adavnced options off -- graphics as low as they will go -- I got 24.5 fps

I then dropped in a Gigabyte X800 Pro 256MB RAM.

At the frist settings (640 x 480, low settings) I got 43 fps.

Bumped it up to medium quality, 1024 x 768 and got 43.5 fps (figure taken after second run through of test)

I also applied the tewak mentioned above, raising the cache to 128 but haven't taken that off yet to see if it makes a difference.

Tonight I'll try it on my home PC, a P4 2.6GHz, 1GB RAM, GF4 Ti 4400 128 RAM.

258727 2004-08-06 05:00:00 geez lets bet it's somewhere "up there" in the north island when I can't "borrow" it :P

I'd have more respect if it was done here @ PC World.nz than say another mag that starts with A...

And Met would have to start building the "DOOMINATOR"

It'd be the forum person METLA VS PC WORLD.nz and Juha has to be impartial :P

hell I'd pay front row seats to see this.... bugger living in Christchurch?

:)

258728 2004-08-06 05:18:00 Anyone got any information on Doom3 having major spyware/trojan code in it? My friend was telling me that there was something on the news last night, that 80 people in the UK had been busted for installing pirated Doom3 copies.

The software is supposed to connect to ID software every 20secs or something.

Can't find anything on the net as yet, but this is some seriously dodgy stuff.

258729 2004-08-06 05:25:00 Sounds like a fluff story to me,used to discourage piracy, reminds me a story in the local where they claimed new technology in video tapes meant they could tell when someone had dubbed a copy.

Yeah right.

Besides,if they want to be leet pirates they should at least have run a firewall, nearly every game i have wants to phone home when launched.

258730 2004-08-06 05:28:00 Can't see anything about it on the leet kiddie pirate boards,They are too busy sating how lame and ghey the game is.lmao.

But that would have been one of the first places to cry fowl if there was a chance they would have to pay for their actions.

258732 2004-08-06 06:52:00 Just tested it on my home PC. The old Ti 4400 performed quite reasonably.

29.4 fps at 800 x 600, 19.7 at 1024 x 768, default medium settings.

At that fps it certainly seems playable and looks pretty good, but its still hardly ideal. It certainly looks and feels like a completely different beast on a decent video card. But sure, if you've got something of the ilk of a 128MB Ti4400 or ATI equivalent, then you'll be able to enjoy the game, although you'll still be left wishing you had something better. But at $600-$1000 for something better, well, I won't spend that amount of dosh just for one game, even if I had it to spend. Do yourself a favour and don't go and look at it running on a monster rig like I have, it'll just make you cry.

258733 2004-08-06 07:00:00 hmmm..

It locks up my laptop(lookin damn sexy when it locks up though)

Runs sweet as on my shop rig.

And when i get home....im gonna be usin a 2200,with 256mb system ram and a g4ti4200 with 64mb.

how sad,i would almost feel sorry for myself if i wasn't so spoilt, gonna be piggish on my home rig.

258734 2004-08-06 07:32:00 Ok... I've had a chance to test...

P4 3.0C @ 3.3Ghz
Gainward FX5900U @ 500/950 Mhz

Default high quality settings

AA 0X = 49.1 FPS
AA 2X = 43.1 FPS
AA 16X = 12 FPS

I've tried modifying the seta image_cacheMegs "32" to 96 and 256 with no improvement under timedemo.

Lo.
