| 259418 | 2004-08-08 04:27:00 | I don't know what it is but I always have trouble getting my network running after I reformat my two Pc's. I always end up fumbling around for a long time before I get it going, & when I do I don't know what Iv'e done to get it going. But then Nortons 2004 don't exactly help. When I read the help in windows , it makes it soud like all you need to do is turn on both PC's & bob's your uncle. win2k Is there any tricks I'm missing. |

| 259420 | 2004-08-08 07:16:00 | I had the same sortathing with @k and XP network... Set it all up... cheak IP settings (assigned or static) i like to make sure ping is working.... then just leave the whole running.... it should (if things are going well) about 40 minutes for the computers to set them selves up... as in... finding the gateway on they network.... delagateing a DNS Server for the lan... and a whole lot of other things to do with networking that i dont know about (yet)... Quote from Windows XP Inside Out --------------------------------------------- tip - Allow time for network icons to appear -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- The rules that govern which computers handle browsing duties on a network are complex and occasionally Byzantine. But as a general rule, on a local network, you shouldnt have to wait longer than 24 minutes, and usually no more than 12 minutes, for the icons for network computers to appear in the My Network Places folder. If your network contains some remote segments, these periods may stretch out to 36 or 48 minutes. If youve waited more than an hour, something else is wrong. Want more details about how the browser service works? Read Knowledge Base article Q188001, "Description of the Microsoft Computer Browser Service." ----------------------------------------- |

| 259421 | 2004-08-08 09:59:00 | Check: - 1 x crossover cable [tested OK] between 2 PC's or... - 1 x hub / switch with PC's chained off. - PC's in same WORKGROUP? - 2 x static IP addresses? 192.168.1.X / 24 - Pay to use network setup wizard if using ICS, then second PC does not have static IP address as ICS runs a mini DHCP. Hope this helps??? |
