| 259365 | 2004-08-08 05:46:00 | It seems that personal opinions contrary to popular opinion are deemed "offensive" - as the thread said, here comes the 1984 "Big Brother", what ever happened to free speech? | andrew93 (249) | ||

| 259367 | 2004-08-08 06:03:00 | I didn't lock it. But looking at it I can see why. Jack, you ask the question but you know our rules. If you want political free speech go somewhere offering that. Pressf1 makes no pretence to offer a poltical forum. Our rule is to keep it friendly and that thread was heading anywhere but friendly. There were already several posts in it that in my opion incited hatred. No further discussion neccessary. | Biggles (121) | ||

We dont really know what the popular opinions are because these days people are too scared of Big Brother. Take the case of David Irving, he started off as a very fine historian, uncovering the Nazi atomic bomb development reported in his book "The Mares Nest" amongst other things. Ok he has in more recent years seemed to go off the rails a bit with his ideas of how Churchill schemed and plotted assassinations, whitewashing the Nazi atrocities etc, but I just wonder how many of the people vilifying him have actually read any of his works. Yet we have to accept the decisions of our elected government (until the nexr election), and to accept this forums moderators decisions also. |

| 259371 | 2004-08-08 06:54:00 | Tres amusant Growly. I was a bit suprised to see the padlock but not troubled. However the specific contentious post was ignored so I doubt the discussion was going nuclear. I don't have a problem with moderators stepping in although it seemed unnecessary in this case. Robust debate makes for a much more interesting world. |
