2004-08-08 00:02:00 | I am using Office 2003 on an XP Pro machine. I note in running processes that "outlook.exe" still runs even after quitting out of Outlook. It can show up in processes as many times as I run the program, if I don't manually end task it. I have googled, and it seems many have the same problem, and most answers relate to something else running that is using the services of Outlook, like a back-up, calendar etc, but these aren't running here. One solutiion was to delete/rename the outlook.srs file in the documents and settings folder, but this only solved the problem till I restarted Outlook, when it recreated the file. Any ideas? J :D

2004-08-08 00:18:00 | Something like this is happening at work (using Office XP), and it seems to be linked to a recent update - I think perhaps a .Net update (I'll never know, as they will never tell me ;)) I did find, however, that if I exit by File > Exit rather than the X (how I usually close programs) the instance of Outlook closes properly. | 259299 | 2004-08-08 01:19:00 | Hi Jester I have noticed the same thing happening on my PC but only when I close Outlook with the little "x" at the top RHS of the window. If I use the menu File, Exit then is doesn't happen. Otherwise you end up with "new mail" notifications if you are online and you think that Outlook has been shut down. Not aware of any patches sorry. Andrew

2004-08-08 06:01:00 | Hi Jester Have you seen this (www.mcse.ms) thread on another forum? It may answer why your problem is occuring. And apparently there is a piece of freeware called knockout (sunflowerhead.com) that fixes this problem per this (blogs.officezealot.com) thread, which is also in another forum. HTH Andrew

2004-08-08 07:52:00 | Thanks for the knockout link Andrew - I tried a piece of software called shutdown addin but it featured a nag screen on start-up and shutdown urging you to buy it. It bugs me why this has suddenly occurred though.

2005-06-30 18:57:00 | There is a relatively easy fix that doesnt involve installing possibly shady 3rd party programs. =D First open outlook, goto tools, options, other tab and uncheck "Enable instant messaging in microsoft outlook". Then use messenger disable located at www.dougknox.com checking the bottom two boxes. (Make sure you close Windows messenger from your system tray first) Reboot the computer and enjoy. Your outlook.exe not closing problems are gone for good. Cheers!
