259074 2004-08-07 04:34:00 I have read "FAQ# 33 How do I reformat my hard drive?" ( pressf1.pcworld.co.nz ). I would just like to confirm I am doing the right thing by someone who knows.

We have an older laptop we tried installing WinXP to, but it runs so slow we would like to go back to Win2000. When you put the Win2000 CD in the laptop running WinXP it says:

"Windows has detected an older version of Windows. Setup will be disabled on this CD".

I have a found couple of Boot Disc websites:
- freepctech.com
- www.bootdisk.com

and have also read to create a MS-DOS Boot CD under WinXP you go:

"CREATING A WINDOWS XP BOOT DISK

Create MS-DOS bootable diskette

When formatting a floppy diskette users have the option of creating a MS-DOS startup disk, follow the below steps to do this.

1. Place diskette in the computer.
2. Open My Computer and right click the A: drive and click Format.
3. In the Format window check Create an MS-DOS startup disk.
4. Click Start "

I would just like to know what people here think the best way to get a clean install of Win2000 on a computer currently running WinXP would be?

Thanks.

A.

259075 2004-08-07 05:03:00 Your Win2000 CD will be bootable so as long as your CD drive is the first boot device you should be able to have the CD in and reboot and load off the CD. Yes it will say there is an OS on the drive but follow the instructions to delete and format and all should be well. If CD is not the first boot device then go into the Bios (setup) on bootup and change to first boot. Berryb (654)
