259038 2004-08-07 02:25:00 This morning in turning the computer on I noticed that the nortons antivirus icon didn't show up on my desktop, on opening it I found auto protect on off and the email scanning had error next to it. I have tried and tried but it will not turn on, I click on enable and nothing happens. Can anyoune suggest how to fix this? Thanks for any suggestions :) kay jay (5770)

259041 2004-08-09 00:08:00 Do you or anyone else have any more suggestions, I have run virus scan 3 times in the past 3 days and it says I have no virus, I have updated virus list and still nothing, but I still cannot enable my Nortons, or the email scanning, just don't know what to do next :( kay jay (5770)
259042 2004-08-09 00:13:00 Hi

Same thing happened to me, and it was just after I downloaded and installed either AVG [ may have been spybot or Ad-aware], but pretty sure it was AVG.
Maybe a conflict in both of them trying to check the emails. AVG won out anyway. Was testing AVG out as Norton's seemed to be controlling and hogging everything. Ended up booting Norton's out and keeping AVG.

Best decision I ever made.

259043 2004-08-09 00:39:00 sometimes its just plain old nortons which seems to have a habbit of dying ever so often. uninstall, cleanout any leftovers and reinstall.

what changes have you made latly? sometimes a firewall can upset it which can be a pain.

259045 2004-08-09 01:25:00 Thanks for all your help, problem now solved and I'm ashamed to say it was a problem of my own doing, I had turned something off in the start up menu, those links you posted johnboy helped sort it out, thank you so much and I'll be much more careful in what I'm touching from now on :) kay jay (5770)
