| 259378 | 2004-08-08 22:21:00 | Gentlemen, again, this is not a political discussion forum. We have, hopefully, all tried hard to make PressF1 a friendly place, where people can get help with tech difficulties. I think it is important to remember that. I cannot speak for who locked the thread, but I suspect I wpould have locked it too on the basis it was likely to turn ugly, NOT because of political correctness. Maybe it was a hardsh call, maybe not, BUT considering that many have complained in the past about people leaving PressF1 because of the bitching and fighting, I think you should give the mod the benefit of the doubt rahter than jumping to the conclusion that the mod had a personal axe to grind. | Biggles (121) | ||
| 259379 | 2004-08-08 22:37:00 | Agreed Bruce, this is not a political forum, but it is not a forum for about half of what is posted here either. IMHO it is in the main a very interesting forum and I enjoy reading 99% of the posts. Further Bruce, in reply to your previous post. I did not participate in the original discussion. I considered most of it to be rather juvenile. All I did was to query why it had been locked. You know, "freedom of speach" and all that stuff. Jack |

| 259380 | 2004-08-08 22:52:00 | I know Jack, but you asked the question so I answered it, as I percieve (not being the one who locked the post). I'm just saying that freedom of speech has its limits here, in that it doesn't extend as far as flame wars. Most boards of this nature don't have off topic posts. I know plenty of boards that have out right banned political discussions. Do they do so to supress freedom of speech? No, they do so because their boards were set up for a specific purpose and they find that political discussions tend to generate so much ill will that users start disappearing, which ruins the original purpose of the board. We haven't done that, and I'm not saying that we will, but we will lock threads if they get out of hand. Maybe that one was locked too early, I don't know, but let's just assume it was locked for that reason and move on. |

| 259381 | 2004-08-08 22:54:00 | It was getting nasty, wasn't anywhere near an already off-topic topic, and it was time it stopped. I didn't think any comment was necessary at the time. Obersturmbanfuhrer robo. |
