259829 2004-08-09 04:16:00 Hi All

My website is currently with Freeparking, which is cool, I can't complain with the service. However I want to find webhost that can supply about 1GB of disk space or more and not cost the earth.

I have found a few webhosts over seas that provide this, but I would prefer a New Zealand webhost. Can anyone please tell me of some good NZ web hosts that can offer 1GB of disk space or more and not cost the earth.

It would need to be a linux server with PHP and mySQL support and preferably 20GB or more of bandwidth each month. The other option that I would like to look into (but not this year) is setting up my own webserver so I could then have unlimited webspace and be able to become a mirror for software and stuff. Can anyone please give me advise on costs to set up and and maintain a proper web server with good speed. Cheers in advance

Nathan :)

Whereabouts in the country be you?

Do you what the server to be in NZ?

If so, give me a few hours & I will do some digging around for you :)

259833 2004-08-09 05:24:00 Got any specific bandwidth needs? What exactly would you define as costing the earth? Growly (6)

You wouldn't believe the irony of you going round correcting people.

259836 2004-08-09 06:01:00 You'll pay an arm at least for that. Try to stike a deal with someone like this (http://kiwiwebhost.co.nz/). Their Apache servers are in NZ and they have a good mix of features in cPanel X (33 tools in all).

259837 2004-08-09 06:33:00 It seems I was mistaken - I meant speed,

Maybe where I come from bandwidth means something else?

Shall I rephrase?

What kind of access speeds were you looking at? (Kbps)

259838 2004-08-09 08:00:00 as for speed, the faster the better though I am not to bothered at this stage . The site at present is primarily downloads and online single player games . The site at present is also using the PostNuke content management system .

In time I would like to move away from PostNuke into a more unique self created system, I would also like to add multiplayer online games (similar to that like MSN) but this would not likely be happening for a couple of years yet .

Yes I would prefer the server to be in New Zealand, this way I would be able to make the site a mirror site for a large number of downloads (thus 20 GB bandwidth might not be enough, but it would be to start with)

I have looked into some overseas hosts including canaca . com ( . com/) and globat . com (http://www . globat . com/" target="_blank">canaca . com/) and globat . com (http:)

This might give you some idea of what would be great, and the prices I would like to pay (am prepared to pay more if necerssarily but not too much) though the hosting plans don't need to be as great sounding as this .

One final thing that I can think of right now (ask if you have more questions) is the server needs to be reliable, ie I don't want the site to only be accessable every so often, I want it to be up all of the time .

Cheers :)
