259660 2004-08-08 11:14:00 Everytime I plug in my Brother HL1430 into my Acer laptop I always get the new hardware found dialog box. I am connecting with a USB cable and use Windows XP any suggestions? Billy B (5997)
259661 2004-08-08 11:21:00 um . . . . would you rather it ignored it?

It has to recorgnise it and then assign the driver to it so you can use it,all usb devices cause the same reaction .

Or are you saying it fails to load the driver and requires manual intervention?

259662 2004-08-08 11:23:00 Unless you have a very mysterious XP, it will detect new hardware when you install / connect it. It doesn't always work,(that's why it is called plug and pray,) but it seems to be working fine in your case. It won't be doing a full install (hopefully), more of of an enabling process.

The New Hardware Wizard May Detect the Printer Device After Every Restart of the Computer
here (support.microsoft.com) and see if it applies to you.

No don't, you'll end up with RSI in hospital and computer-less. Then where will we be without your wisdom?

259666 2004-08-08 12:17:00 Usually with USB printers it tells you to install the drivers and then connect the printer. Letting Windows detect it and then installing the drivers causes this problem. mikebartnz (21)
