259688 2004-08-08 23:13:00 If you have had no previous starting problems, especially on cold days, I'd check the electrolyte levels in the cells and add water if needed before I shelled out for a new battery.

Just get a jump-start initially, most local garages will come out on a phone call, or ask neighbours.

Cheers

259689 2004-08-09 00:05:00 Thanks guys - I've got too many dollars, not enough cents (sense?) and simply called that Marshall guy.

$65 incl GST later... oh well, at work now and can concentrate on my next issue...

My Gigabyte 8KNXP mobo seems to have issues. Memtest runs sweet. PSU is rock solid, CPU is not fried... Hard drives seem to be the issue, but not just one, all of them. SATA, IDE... which leads me to believe the mobo is at fault here. All plugs have been swapped, devices dropped to a minimum, etc... same problem... random lockups requiring a hard reboot.

My supplier tells me that he could do a warranty job on it, but given it would take about 3 weeks, I'm inclined to simply bite the bullet and buy another one.

I'm having a real crapper of a day.

259690 2004-08-09 00:17:00 sounds like the optimal time to get that nforce3 and AMD 3500+ 64-bit cpu...... metla (154)
259691 2004-08-09 00:20:00 What about my P4 3.0 that's in there at the moment? Bit early to be resigning that to the scrap heap!

259692 2004-08-09 00:31:00 True, but by buying just a new mobo your spending money and staying stagnet, better off spending money and moving ahead.

You could mount the P4 in the fireplace, pump some juice through it and heat the house,or use it as a replacement element in a hot water cylinder,....

Or just sell it and cover some of the costs,Im sure they still fetch a good price.

It's a Northwood, not a Prescott.

Hmmm.... I dunno... I'm a die-hard Intel fan and will probably wait until the next gen platform is sorted out...

Meh,Im never one to let the details get in the way of a good hardware slagging.

259696 2004-08-09 02:06:00 Lo, you don't have a heat problem with the CPU or GPU, maybe a heatsink loose or a fan not working properly? Sb0h (3744)
