2004-08-09 04:14:00 | I have just updated my PC to WIN XP. When I use IE6 and try to close down the Application hangs and I have to use Task Manager and force it to close. Task Manager says the programme is running but no matter how long I wait it never closes unless forced to close I use another PC that has IE5 and WIN NT and do not experience this problem

2004-08-09 04:18:00 | Greetings Alan, Welcome to PressF1. I see two solutions: 1. Install WinXP Service Pack 2 (Available on next months PCW Cover Disc) 2. Do yourself a favor and Download and Install Firefox (www.mozilla.org) Let us know how you get on Chill.

Do yourself a favor and > Do > nload and Install Firefox (www.mozilla.org) > I SOOOO agree - I installed Firefox on my office laptop and home PC and it is so much more superior and faster to IE5, Opera, Netscape etc. One added bonus - in print preview mode, you can select the paper orientation unlike IE where it has to be done in printer setup. |

2004-08-09 04:38:00 | Thanks for all the prompt replies. Unfortunately the PC is a networked work PC so uninstalling it not that easy nor is using Firefox - although I'll be using it on my home PCs. Have had a tech from our IS dept have a look and he is stumped. They have decided to reinstall IE6 for me but I'll pass on your advice. Lots of good info from you folks Great service & thanks heaps. I'll let you know how it goes. I'd love to have a look at some of these solutions for myself but would probably raise the ire of our IS folks

2004-08-09 04:49:00 | Most IS departments shouldnt have a problem with your running the likes of Firefox, Mozilla, Netscape, or Opera provided that it displays any commonly used work-related websites the same. Talk to them about it - I know that at my work all PC's use soley Firefox :-) | Chilling_Silence (9) | |
2004-08-09 21:53:00 | I'll give them a try but they get a bit touching about non M/S Apps running - their reasoning being that they cannot support them if there are problems. Thanks for your help
