260339 2004-08-10 21:47:00 Hi, is it possible to play an mpeg video and record the audio only off it and save as a wav or mp3 file. I have the following programmes: Windows Media Player, Real One Player, DivX Player, QuickTime, MusicMatch and the good old standard Windows recorder. I have had a play with the Windows Media Player but can't suss it out. You would be a legend if you could assist. Thanks Aporosa (5671)
260340 2004-08-10 22:08:00 In lieu of an easier way I stumbled upon this when I was encoding vcd to dvd. By using Tmpgenc (www.tmpgenc.net) I was able to separate video from audio.
The instructions (www.afterdawn.com) (although you will only do the section headed "Demux the video with TMPGEnc") are relatively simple.

260341 2004-08-10 22:24:00 Thanks man, I looked at the link to TMPGEnc but I am not sure which download I will reqiuire as there appears to be heaps of them. Can you specify please. Thanks again Aporosa (5671)
260342 2004-08-10 22:42:00 I would just click on downloads and grab the latest version.

To be honest I dont fully understand what the different versions mean too much but from the screen shots I've seen they all look the same and work the same. I only just downloaded my copy 3 days ago.

From there you can save it as your choice of an mp3, ogg, wav, raw etc etc etc......

Couldnt be easier :-)

260344 2004-08-11 06:33:00 Going on the basis that the best things in life are FREE, I'd have thought it better to get a freeware encoder. That way it will last without expiring after 30 days or what have you.

Windows Media Encoder is free but bloated, I havent used it for several years.

What I do use for audio recording is RealEncoder 5.1, much smaller than the latest Real offerings, but you have to get it now from other sites. Real want you to use Real Producer or whatever their latest offering is called.

RealEncoder 5.1 works well with XP even though it was for win95/98.

There are a number of older encoders here:
filedudes.siol.net

I dont have Music Match any more, but I thought it also encoded to Mp3?
