260187 2004-08-10 08:04:00 Hi
I run Win XP Home on a P4 with 512 Mb RAM, 80Gb HDD etc...
For a few days now, my system has been running v e r y s l o w (i.e. 4 minutes to load up Outlook..??!). Initial Windows error messages on startup mentioned the file "autoexec.nt" & a 16bit app I had sitting around (Bitware Fax). I searched F1, and someone suggested copying autoexec.nt and config.nt from the Windows/Repair directory to /System32 directory> I also used Nortons S/W to blow away Bitware (I no longer use it anyway).
Well.....problem solved, but when I switch profiles, the new user profile is on "go-slow" again (but no error message), and when I switch profiles back again, the "go-slow" problem comes back. The only way to get around it, is to reboot, and use only one profile......Help.....

260188 2004-08-10 08:13:00 Have you totally cleaned out your registry and have everything pointing in the right direction in all profiles?

260190 2004-08-10 08:15:00 I've used Nortons "One button checkup" to fix any registry errors.
Not sure what u mean by pointing everything in the right place in all profiles....?

260191 2004-08-10 11:44:00 I used Nortons in the past to try and fix reg errors and believe me when I say it caused many problems with my system afterwards - suffice to say I've never used Nortons again and have been warned since not to use such products as they aren't very successful in what they claim. 260192 2004-08-11 07:16:00 Know what you mean.....I don't have a lot of confidence in some of their other utilities either (i.e. scandisk)......
Cheers
