2004-08-09 22:46:00 | The Captain needs help from the crew at PF1, When installing a printer(Canon S200SPX),all goes well, then up pops the message..the RPC Server is unavailable. It's a new,but used printer, and I do not have an installation CD. I have d/loaded all the drivers, and it is reckonised by my computer after log on.I do have Black Vipers services patch installed, and when looking into my services page, the RPC and RPC functions are enabled to default. I'm running XP home with no security issues. Any help most welcome. Thanks Hook.

2004-08-10 06:56:00 | Thanks tweak'e, Found the post you mentioned,a bit unrelated as this is the first time a printer has ever been near my machine. I did find some sketchy but relevant info related to my problem,so will try a few of them and see what happens. The XP default Wizard seems to handle the install ok,up until that error message that is. Still ,I'm confident that someone here might understand whats happening. Hook.

2004-08-10 08:37:00 | From experience, drivers have to be installed before turning the printer on. USB version anyway. Bye

2004-08-10 09:16:00 | Thanks for that Peter. Have just spent a couple of hours surfing forums and that was mentioned briefly on one or two of them also.I will try that. Any idea as to where I install them to,or just to my C drive ? Will get back with results. Cheers Hook

2004-08-10 09:39:00 | Basicly, the quick start guide says, put CD in - it auto runs - when the screen shows "turn on the printer" - you turn it on. The printer is then recognised, and away you go. From memory it took a while, but got there in the end. | Peter H (220) | |
2004-08-10 20:56:00 | Thanks Peter, As I mentioned,I don't have the install CD that normally comes with the product. The printer belonged to my son,its less than 3mths old and only had about 3-4 pages put through it.He gave it to me when he sold his computer. It was bundled with his comp when he bought it.Sadly he has gone to sea for a few months,so am unable to get any details from him. Any ideas where to get an install CD would be most helpful. Hook

2004-08-10 21:32:00 | My model is S330 but should be OK - I did have a S300, replaced under warranty - and should have that CD as well. I'm quite happy to send you a copy. Bye

2004-08-10 21:49:00 | Hi Hook How have you been installing the drivers, by: Unzipping the downloaded file and double clicking on the Setup.exe? Is it plugged into a USB port and not a hub? Has there been any other USB devices installed that are no longer used or could be conflicting with the printer. Any info in Device Manager? Now that you have some printer software on your PC, you may have to get rid of it then start again. USB printers and scanners are often particularly fussy about the exact sequence during the install, sometimes even then they can spit the dummy because you didn't touch wood and cross your fingers and toes. BTW, should RPC services be set to Manual or Automatic in XP. Cheers Murray P

2004-08-11 05:30:00 | Sorry It has taken me all day to get back to you guys, but the boats on the slip, and that must come first . Thanks for your perseverence . > > How have you been installing the drivers, by: > Unzipping the downloaded file and double clicking on > the Setup . exe? Yes, by this method . > > Is it plugged into a USB port and not a hub? Really don't know the difference between the two Murray . The top slot on the front of the Tower . > > Has there been any other USB devices installed that > are no longer used or could be conflicting with the > printer . Any info in Device Manager? First time anything has been plugged in ever . (Could be the last time too) . I can only assume that my haste has created a conflict some where . > > Now that you have some printer software on your PC, > you may have to get rid of it then start again . As soon as I find out where to delete everything and start again I will start again . > USB printers and scanners are often particularly fussy > about the exact sequence during the install, > sometimes even then they can spit the dummy because > you didn't touch wood and cross your fingers and > toes . > > BTW, should RPC services be set to Manual or > Automatic in XP . RPCSs is on auto by default RPC Locator is on manual by default . I will put some of my services settings back to default, delete everything I've done so far, and see what happens . Peter H, I would gladly take up your offer of the install CD . I'll put my email address in my profile and we'll take it from there . Cheers to both of you . Hook
