259953 2004-08-09 12:48:00 I want to upgrade from the old hard disk drive, (30GB) to mabey a 80GB -120GB size.
Has anybody got any suggestions on what to look out for when buying one.

I also want to try and get a racing wheel.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

259954 2004-08-09 12:53:00 Hi Ollie - consider size [GB] , speed [ 5400 / 7200] , cache 2 or 8 meg, format - PATA or SATA - check what your mobo will take - probably PATA , warrantee ... I 've used Seagate / Western Digital / Maxtor drives in the past and they all seem much the same IMHO , see ya , Mike W KatiMike (242)
259955 2004-08-09 13:01:00 What's your motherboard, what sort drive interface does it support? eg, IED ATA 100, OS would help too. Is this PC mainly for playing games, what other uses?

I personally like Seagates because I've had very little trouble from them. Pay a few more $ for a 3 year warranty (you can get upto 5 year now from Seagate). Go for 7200rpm if that, cache size (commonly 2MB or 8MB) will depend on your usage as to whether it makes a whole heap of difference.

I have no idea what would be a good racing wheel.

259956 2004-08-09 13:27:00 Hi,
The hard drive I am using now is ATA, Maxtor 5400 Rpm, 2m buffer.
We have XP Professional, probably use it more for games but I also download alot of music, (have 828Mb worth and growing).
Only have 8Gb left and need to load on some DVD movies that I want.

So as you can see I don't have much space to play with, and with all these big new games coming out I kind of need it.
Thanks

I use two Seagate 120 Gig hard drives here. One is a backup for the other. Seagate warranties have gone from three years and down to one year. Recently you can get a five year warranty on a Seagate hard drive.

Both are ATA with 8 Meg cache.

I'm quite happy with them.
