260710 2004-08-12 00:30:00 Hello :)

This morning I got this icon (see screen shot) (sal.neoburn.net) in my task bar, & it says downloading updates, I check windows update to see if there are any new updates, but I cant find any thing?!?!, the only thing I can find is news about win XP SP2

I am running Win XP SP2 RC 2 V.2149 & with automatic turn on before (But I have now turned it so it lest me know there are updates to download)

I am hoping it is not downloading SP2 final?! Or bye bye monthly bandwidth cap (I only have 3GB & I have all ready used half aprox!)

I tried clicking on the icon to pause the download & to see what it is downloading, but that does not help, what is my computer downloading??? & how do I stop it!?!

Please HELP! me ASAP!!!

You could always cancel the download before its at through your data limit?

LOL!, I am on a network computer so that does Not help :D

Anyway, what it was downloading I think was the install file for Win XP SP2 final see screen shot - sal.neoburn.net (Note: maybe a bit big)

260716 2004-08-12 01:20:00 If not too late - or for future use, download TCP View (81kb) from Sysinternals (www.sysinternals.com). You may be able to establish the server it is downloading from and go from there.

260717 2004-08-12 01:24:00 Ya posted while I was ...

If you are on a networked PC you can still pull the plug!

Anyway - as far as the SP2 for XP goes, wait till it's on next months PC World, then wait till all the patches come out, find out what issues people have so you know what to do when your system messes up, then install it off the CD.

260718 2004-08-12 01:28:00 It is all part of this grand scheme by MS to take over everyones soul. With automatic updates enabled by default, fine print eulas whereby you agree to let MS do whatever they like. where will it end??

The other evil giant Telecom is now cashing in on this by re-imposing a cap with its wholesale broadband.

They obviously suddenly realised that with XP2 they could make a killing with people exceeding their quota.

TP you cynic, where do you get such outrageous ideas from ;)

Heres another one: Axing Jetstart, JSGames and caps will turn over a nice bundle when the next XBox is released. Hmm, wasn't there some discussion a while back theorising conspiracy a cosy relationship between MS/Xbox and Telecom and XBox bandwidth and data needs. Maybe it's all falling into place. ;\
