260686 2004-08-12 06:57:00 I agree with cyabro - it's not hardware (hence no memtest recommendation), and I also agree to try doing cyabro's suggestion of starting with everything disabled via msconfig while disconnected from the 'net and re-introduce items one at a time. andrew93 (249)
260687 2004-08-12 08:09:00 How about doing a system restore back to before you fiddled in msconfig? ;-) Fire-and-Ice (3910)
260688 2004-08-12 13:00:00 Have disabled everything, which went fine.

Have enabled programmes one-by-one, have done about 7 programmes so far, with no freezing (this is a long process because I have to wait at least 30mins to see if the comp freezes. If it hasn't then its back to msconfig and enabling another prog, then restarting and so on!)

Will keep doing this process until have done all.

Incidently I have enabled frog great print, and the pc's been running for 7 hours now without freezing, so it's definitely not that thing (which I originally thought was)!

260689 2004-08-26 07:57:00 Hey everyone!

Finally found the culprit (I think) . It was only when I enabled TeaTimer, that things started to freeze again, so I've disabled that .

Now what do I do? If i remember correctly, tea timer is to do with SpyBot . Should I uninstall that, and then download and reinstall?

thanks,
caffy

260690 2004-08-26 10:41:00 A bit late now as you have isolated the problem yourself but I also had this problem and isolated the culprit as Tea-Timer. Leaving it disabled at start-up the PC worked fine. Having it load on start up and I was getting the same freezing errors you were.

The only way I found around this was to leave the Tea Timer disabled.

Would be interested to hear if anyone else has the same issue and if so, how they resolved it

260692 2004-08-30 09:21:00 Hi Caffy, not sure if you are bumping your question or that of southern_jas.

Re your question : there is no need to uninstall anything. Teatimer is a registry watchdog within Spybot that you can either disable via msconfig (as you have done) or you can disable it within Spybot as follows : open Spybot, Mode, Advanced Mode, Tools, Resident, untick Resident TeaTimer.

Re the question from southern_jas : the Spybot support page (www.spybot.info) is not much help with this problem, although this page (www.voiceofthepublic.com) gives a little more info on what TeaTimer is / does. You could always try the official Spybot support forum (forums.net-integration.net) but I did a quick search there and couldn't find others with the same problem. In all hoensty I didn't search too hard, you may have a little more luck than me.

260693 2004-08-30 12:58:00 This Spybot support thread (forums.net-integration.net) might shed some light on what is happening- it could be a conflict with either the power management or another watchdog programme, or alternatively you may want to try uninstalling Spybot, downloading the latest version and reinstalling. The thread is hard going but may be worth a read.
