260612 2004-08-11 12:15:00 Glad I'm with Orcon already ...

So Telecon made a net profit of $730+million this year

That means they made over $180 out of my 5 yr old daughter

and I get raped for 256 K "broadband"

Goodness

260613 2004-08-11 12:15:00 I think Orcon decided it was make or break time,Telecom will crush them without raising a sweat, all they have to do is tilt the playing feild a little each time.

My guess is Orcon will be gone in 7 months

260614 2004-08-11 12:47:00 This is so "par for the course" that we've come to expect from the "big bully" - Telecom .

They extort large amounts of money out of you and me, give us endless cheesy commercials on radio and TV about how wonderful they are, by some girl who sounds like she's just won Lotto, and how much of a favour they are doing us by lowering their toll rate to this country or that country "till the end of the year" etc etc, and then when you aren't looking they pull the rug or change the deal .
Look at the "text all you want" deal - they got caught out a beauty on that one and had to backpeddle as fast as they could - effectively changing the goal posts after getting everyone signed up - many people canning their 021 phones in favour of Telecom's deal on texting .

Still, I'm not too worried, Telecom is a short term solution . They tried to break into the Australian market and failed dismally .
Here, they are under immense opposition pressure by the likes of TelstraClear and other independent Telcos .
Telecom know they are in a rocky position, and they are scrambling to try to change that but it's too late .

We can do without all the glossy hypermarketing that stuffs our monthly phone bill - that we're ultimately paying for, we can do without the endless commercials and the so called "great deals" .

Just give us basic services at a fair price, and hi-speed internet with no caps, like the rest of the developed world .

Thank goodness for wireless broadband . . .

They very well could be. They don't get left with much options.

Why does the Commerce Commision not care about these anti-competitive techniques?

260618 2004-08-11 20:55:00 I also recently noted that Telecom charge you a "reconnection fee" of $99 to get Jetstream - even if you are a current customer moving house.
Does this seem fair?

260619 2004-08-11 20:58:00 Stuff Telecom eh. Anyway I sure won't be abusing the 10gig limit - never go over 3 gigs anyway Greg S (201)
260620 2004-08-11 21:25:00 well i hope that many people get onto orcon, they are constantly recormended around here as a good isp and it seems they are making good on promises again. Good on them for making some competition for telecom Budda (2736)
