1368012 2014-02-19 00:46:00 I try to upgrade from 8 to 8.1 and keep being instructed to do it via the "Store" on my desktop, but there's no option to do it. Grr.

So I know this is a bit pathetic but how do I do the update?

1368013 2014-02-19 00:55:00 Go to the right of the screen, select start then store. It'd be easier if you installed something like classicshell. Then you'll have a menu Speedy Gonzales (78)
1368014 2014-02-19 01:14:00 Go to the right of the screen, select start then store. But that's my problem... in the Store there isn't any option to do the upgrade  Greg (193)
1368015 2014-02-19 01:19:00 Are these 2 updates installed??

This (support.microsoft.com) and this (support.microsoft.com). According to this, you may have to install these updates first (windows.microsoft.com)

1368016 2014-02-19 02:57:00 Sometimes putting in the update patches Speedy linked to work other times they dont, not to sure why.

But what I do is open the control panel, simple way to do it on W8 - go to the tiles / start screen and simply type in control, the control panel option will appear on the right, click it, locate near the bottom Windows update - the W7 style update box will appear ( thats because it is windows 7) install the updates, after a reboot go back and check the store, it will eventually show after the updates are applied, you cant miss it, its a dirty great big purple picture relating to windows 8.1 upgrade.

1368017 2014-02-19 03:36:00 Got it. Had to download and install about a hundred updates. Thanks guys. Greg (193)
1368018 2014-02-19 05:31:00 I've installed the update - what a flippin rigmarole! I am sooooo learning to hate Win 8.1 with every fibre of my existence!!!!! The only single redeeming aspect is that my download speed has doubled somehow from around 8Mbs to around 16Mbps. Greg (193)
1368019 2014-02-19 06:04:00 Whats the problem ? and be precise so help can be given. wainuitech (129)
1368020 2014-02-19 06:15:00 I thought Windows 8.1 was supposed to be better - though I didn't see much difference when I tried it - not that I tried it much. Agent_24 (57)
1368021 2014-02-19 06:20:00 It is mate, :) The first noticeable changes are the way tiles are handled, and the start button, which was made right click to access its options. ( dont know whose bright idea that was) wainuitech (129)
