1348780 2013-07-13 09:51:00 The toaster packed a sad this morning so we are off to buy a new one tomorrow. A two-slice job is all that is required but it must stand up to pretty heavy use and cook all types of bread quickly and evenly, including Vogels, multigrain, white, muffins and fruit bread to name a few. I couldn't check Consumer magazine with the latest toaster report at the library to see what they recommend as it was out on loan today so what toaster do you people have and would you recommend it? 1348781 2013-07-13 10:45:00 Ok I can't link to Consumer cos you need to be able to log-in. The latest report deals with 4 and 2 slice toasters. The four slice brands recommended are Kambrook KT60, Russell Hobbs Silhouette 20640, Cuisinart CPT-240TNA, Breville Emporia CT45B, Breville Freestyle BT905, and Breville Ikon BTA550.

Two slice models: Breville BTA320, Goldair Domus 2-Slice Toaster FT320R, Breville Freestyle BT320, and Bodum Bistro Toaster 10709.

All very well. We had a Russel Hobbes 4 slice which was a beautiful sturdy machine but...it took a year to toast and even then very lightly. You could go off and do your shopping while you waited.

We have just replaced it with a DeLongi Icona and we are very happy. It tests away down the list for Consumer but dang its a cute retro art deco piece of kitchen furniture and I loves it. And it produces toast pretty quickly. Who knew... Crumpets too. Yum.

1348782 2013-07-13 12:39:00 I have a Breville Freestyle BT905 (www.consumer.org.nz), quite happy with it, does frozen bread, and reheat mode, centers the bread and the outer plastic shell doesn't get hot enough to burn you unlike the metal ones.
The BT320 would be the same except only 2 slice.

Well, husband has issues with toasters.
Picky, picky.

So....I spent some time on the net last time, looking up user comments.
His biggest moan was toasters that cook one side paler than the other.

What came out as best for not doing this was a Kambrook. Had a look, Briscoes had the nearest model to this one, so I bought it.

Tried it - yep - evenly cooked - both sides the same.

I find user comments are better than any official review.....they tend to mention the things that matter.

1348784 2013-07-13 22:18:00 Thank you all for the great information, especially to Winston for the Consumer info. I like to see how Consumer rates things after testing as their tests often pick up models that are downright duds but even then, as Winston has pointed out, it is not always reliable hence my asking for recommendations. And pctek, we empathise with your hubby as we are picky about our toast too. :p

Right, time to hit the shops. :p

Can't say I've found that.

User reviews online do mention that. All the time.

1348787 2013-07-14 03:02:00 I am fed up with our Russel Hobbs not doing Vogels long enough on high.
So will watch this with great care.
