2013-07-12 06:03:00 | I am just wondering, people are using less snail mail, now we have had email. Are you guys now using less emails for personal use? Some of my non geek friends, a bit late but they got their first Smartphone with a contract etc... and are using more SMS and IM apps. They say it is easier and quicker. These incl those not just in the younger ages..... Have friends overseas, SMS can be expensive, firing up a laptop to write a casual email can be time consuming at least. | Nomad (952) | |

2013-07-12 09:12:00 | There is only so much you can write in a text message. They are OK for quick messages. I only use snail mail for birthday/Christmas cards as this is more personal. | Jen (38) | |
2013-07-12 09:17:00 | How have your letters been anyway Gary have they changed much email? At my last trip, I only sent an email once off Gmail b/c Skype wasn't able to send an image off my phone while I was waiting at AKL International. During the trip, it's was always was just social networking, IM apps and SMS on the day when I was out and communicating how to meet each other, there is a app like "Whatsapp" which basically just grabs your phone book's contacts, it doesn't need someone's email they registered with or any unique usersname they created.

2013-07-12 09:21:00 | Yeah we use parcels ... but seldom just a card now, we do make calls; there are e-cards but I have also grown out of them too. There are FB updates, and messages, haha. We use parcel mails more then letters :p Skpe is also making calls so much easier now incl international. Esp overseas where they call you up and they might be skyping on a phone while out :D | Nomad (952) | |
2013-07-12 09:23:00 | they got their first Smartphone with a contract etc... and are using more SMS and IM apps. Haven't got a smartphone but texting on a mobile phone is so slow and clumsy that I wouldn't want to use SMS and IM apps for anything more than quick messages. Give me a proper keyboard for emailing anyday. I do use snail mail for birthday and Christmas cards but haven't written a letter by hand for years. Used to type letters on PC to the oldies but since they have been gone or got their own computers all correspondence is now done by email or phone. Actually that is not true. I do use Facebook on the computer to keep in touch with family members and certain other people so I guess I use a bit of everything nowadays.

2013-07-12 09:44:00 | Some of them yeah .. we use Skypre more often than email unless they need to send me an attachment well some pple try to send me an atachment thru Skype too :p But yes, IM/SMS have always been no more than 2 or 3 short messages but that's probably what we only talk about on a freq basis. Only so much what to say anyway. I use email more for formal .... | Nomad (952) | |
2013-07-12 10:40:00 | I used to feel the same FoxyMX, on a slower Cellphone. Went from my HTC One X to a loaner LG phone from 2Degrees for a little bit, I think it was the LG Black. I couldn't stand it... Blew my monthly minutes that month coz I would just call instead. On the One X, or my Nexus 4, typing is a *breeze* and I love the trace-keyboard feature in Jellybean :) Now, I use Hangouts pretty much exclusively. On a normal week I'd send maybe 5-10 SMS messages, but todays bee a quiet day with me only spending 23 minutes in Hangouts :p It's great coz it works on Android, iOS and on your Desktop, and almost everybody I know already has a Google account of some sort, more than has Facebook or any other messenger :)

2013-07-12 20:11:00 | I still use snail mail a lot its hard to send small packages by email or sms LOL!! +1 I send cards now and then. E-cards suck. I sent a card and flowers to someone in hospital recently. She appreciated them, when I went in she had all the cards from everyone lined up where she could lie there and see them. Sometimes it's appropriate. Emails, I hate txts for any long information. And for business, well, you try sending a quote or something via txt.......pretty rude really. They all have the uses though. Txt is handy for general communication on the go. Actual snail mail letters though? I think they're dead now.

2013-07-12 21:12:00 | Since my family won't use skype and I won't join farcebook then its email and snail mail to communicate with them unless I phone but not always appropriate with the time difference. I have never been a huge fan of text I would much rather if you want to talk to me then damn well dial my number and talk to me | gary67 (56) | |
