| 1348324 | 2013-07-15 06:55:00 | Speaking of, VDSL is off to a very poor start. It worked ok while the tech was here, hasn't worked since. DSL is up but no PPOE, currently on hold with the helpdesk - 2nd try, the first time I selected the call back feature only to be rung back by a machine, put back on hold, then hung up on - fantastic service. I wonder if it's similar to an issue I get on ADSL occasionally. I normally turn the router off at night (yes I know you can't do that on VDSL if you value your speed), and in the morning the router would power up fine, get DSL sync but not establish a PPP connection. Started after the cabinet upgrade and first with my RTA1320 I was using at the time. It would disconnect and resync itself a few times and work, or if not I would have to power off again and back on to get it going. Later I found that the capacitors were going in the Dynalink. Thinking that was the issue, I got a Thomson ST536v6 and it has been much more reliable but sometimes the same problem does happen with it, too. Also have had the problem a couple of times with my friend's HG556a that I was testing a couple of weeks ago. Funny thing, they've all done it, yet once they actually make the connection it is rock solid. For example I ran the HG566a for 8 days straight and it never dropped once. Barely any errors on the DSL stats either. |

Line Attent 4.2\14.9 on my ADSL.... |

| 1348328 | 2013-07-15 22:16:00 | VDSL uses much higher frequencies so it has correspondingly higher loss, that's the nature of copper. Also my cable run to the cabinet is mostly 0.4mm and some 0.5mm cable which is not Ideal and my lead-in from the street is old style cable which is not Ideal either so it performs worse than you might expect from the distance. The calculated prediction for my line was ~ 10.6/20.1 which is closer than I expected to the real connection. Still they are not fantastic numbers, but I have no problem with the speeds in theory - just have no internet still to test anything :( I think there's been a configuration error somewhere and I'm currently experiencing what it's like to deal with customer service. |
