1349086 2013-07-17 10:32:00 I've been struggling to find much good music at all this year...

Some of the last few years favourites were Kings of Leon, the Black Keys, Mumford & Sons, Cold War Kids, John Mayer, Von Voin Strum, Slash... anything someone could recommend after that list? :p
Jack White might be the one for you - his solo is pretty good.

1349087 2013-07-17 10:44:00 As I get older I find I get into less and less new music.
Only recent albums I have enjoyed are Halestorm Hello, It's Mz. Hyde & Nightwish Imaginaerum. Both from 2012, so for me best albums of 2013 so far is none of them. Most of my favourite groups have gotten so old they've stopped putting out albums or they've gone off in a direction that doesn't suit my tastes (Metallica is a case in point, I love everything up to the black album but really haven't gotten into anything since)

Also music is very much about personal taste so these kind of threads are largely pointless unless you happen to share tastes with the people responding. I won't be listening to the albums you listed for example :) Well I have picked up suggestions for here before that have been great - not likely to go to metal but otherwise it doesn't take long to check out a video on youtube and see if you like the sound. Really like to fill in my knowledge gap for good New Zealand bands as well -the guys who supported the Buzzcocks at Bodega seemed okay but never said who they were.

1349088 2013-07-17 12:14:00 As I get older I find I get into less and less new music. thank GOD not its not just me then...
:)

Have we just heard it all over the years, and nothing new can stand up to our fav near perfect albums ?
Or just we have less patience & wont sit through a '4/5 star' or worse album, even once.

For me it seems the opposite... or maybe I'm just not old enough yet!

1349092 2013-07-17 20:56:00 Hmmm, tortured young men searching for meaning and relevance in life, seeking the answer through relationships with women cannot be compared to the total transcendence and acceptance & understanding of life in general that Pink Floyd exhibit in most of their later work, 'sublime' is the word, I would say.

After about 5mins of noodling they finally get it together in a limited sort of way, 'truncated' & 'hemmed in' are the words I would use. Very ordinary, the usual 'dissatisfied young god' 'the world is lucky we exist' feel young men exhibit before they grow up.

Yeah I just listened to Money - and the transcendental qualities leapt out of the speakers at me. You sure you're not just a brick in the wall?

You might like the end of this song, fast forward to about 4.20 if you can't listen to anything post-1972.

PS My Pink Floyd loving son just said it sounds like crap lmao

Better than the last suggestion but still young men complaining that somehow their true potential is being limited or held in check by outside forces they are not in control of, and to finish a bit of plagiarism to boot.
