| 1367357 | 2014-02-10 22:58:00 | Hi People After my two threads of yesterday it looks as if I'm going to have to bite the bullet and get a new laptop (SWMBO is all for it - says I'm wearing hers out!).I'm limited by budget constraints to around $1500. I'm inclined to go for Toshiba (my current munted one has lasted 6-7 years), but possibly ASUS. Initial investigations have turned up what looks to me to be the same model/specs, but with quite a price difference, so I'm asking for second and third opinions as to whether I'm right. As far as the OS is concerned I've only got limited experience of Win 7, and haven't even looked at Win 8 (I've an ASUS tablet operating Android 4.1.1 - would the experience with Win 8 be similar?) I'm also not sure what advantages a 64 bit system would give me - the most intensive thing I do is a bit of Movie Editing. I guess I'm also worried about drivers for my colour lase and ink jet printers, and would Office 2007 operate on Win 8. Any thought and suggestions would be greatly appreciated. | 1367359 | 2014-02-10 23:17:00 | Office 2007 will work on Win8. According to this (blogs.technet.com) 64 bit will use / give you more memory. Altho, if you're into movie editing it'd help if the program was 64 bit as well (If you decide to use 64 bit windows). You would have to go to whatever site and search for the printer model, to see if there's Win8 drivers for it. If you dont like 8/8.1 you could always install something like classicshell. At least it'll give you a menu Looks like the DSE one, may have 8.1 64 bit on it and 8 GB. Info here (www.mytoshiba.co.nz). They've got similar specs besides the ram and the OS. |

Hi WebDev As I said, probably the most intensive thing is Movie editing. Other than that it's just general office work (including spreadsheets), editing photos...... I'm NOT into gaming and my broadband connection is so crap that youtube videos still buffer and it takes me about an hour to download a 100 mb file (I'm rural and at about the physical limit from the local exchange that will "support" broadband. |

I've been to the Classic Shell Website and that looks as if it could be useful if it works like it says. |

When you say movie editing, is that just home movies (stuff you might record on your phone) or are you "semi-pro"? And do you normally use something like Windows movie maker or something more specialised like Adobe Video editing software? |
