1349194 2013-07-17 12:45:00 Hi, any suggestions. Someone looked at the Igloo, but doesn't record, the USB ports are only used for pausing. What sort of price are we looking at for record ability, doesn't need a HD builtin, we can connect a USB stick/HD to it.

Cheers ....

1349195 2013-07-17 13:47:00 All the freeview boxes I have seen give a usb output which you can record off, cost around $70. zqwerty (97)

I think the DishTV, MagicTV and the likes of panasonic etc, are the "offical" certified freeview boxes. The cheapies may not have access to the EPG

1349197 2013-07-17 23:34:00 Tivo for $200-$300 if you can find one. Full featured dual tuner hdd recorder with a lot of nice features. Requires an internet connection to work. Sad marketing failure in NZ but still a great device. dugimodo (138)

I was looking into this not too long ago, something to replace my old Zinwell
Turns out that these cheaper (ie under $200) brands have real quality control issues: issues with reliabilty. even with some of the 'Freeview certified' models
Some having 3 faulty units in a row before getting a reliable warranty replacement, with some store bought cheapies.

Recording to USB, would an average USB flash/stick have a good enough write speed for recording ??

1349199 2013-07-18 01:36:00 The DishTV T1020 can record from TV with a USB stick. I'm using a 16 GB stick (sandisk I think it is). Nothing wrong with it.

It does have EPG as well. The T1000. Dont know if this is later or an earlier version, but it can use USB and supports wifi with an adapter. Which the T1020 doesnt support (well I dont think it does). And you can pretty much record something plug it into a USB port, on a PC, then watch it again. Or edit the recorded video

If youre planning on getting one for this new channel, Sommetsports, it needs to support UHF obviously. And Sommetsports (so I've read on their FB page last nite) is live today after lunch on channel 14. If its not there, retune the channels. Some say Tivo will get it, but others say they cant get it

1349200 2013-07-18 02:10:00 Definitely go for a second hand TiVo. We've now got two in our house. Originally cost us $1K when it first came out, picked the second one up for around $180 a few months back off TradeMe.

We had one of the "Non-certified but does it anyway" el-cheapo ones, I wouldn't do it again though.. EPG never as good, recording wasn't reliable...

1349202 2013-07-18 03:44:00 According to Sommetsports FB page someone said you have to do a channel scan to get them on a Tivo. So it sounds like you can get it on Tivo.

Looks like people in the JDA area/s should scan after 3 pm today. And should pick them up on Ch 14. That includes me I think. I figured that out because there's nothing on channel 14 atm :p
