1348687 2013-07-12 00:38:00 I want to install a free GPS App on my phone but don't know what to use. I have a list of the GPS co-ordinates and I want an App that I can enter these GPS co-ordinates so that I can find my way to that location. Does anyone know of an app that they can recommend? And, of course, where can I get it from? Roscoe (6288)
1348688 2013-07-12 01:53:00 Tried Google Maps? :D

I just tested with this:
www.gpsvisualizer.com
Converted from 248 Queen Street, auckland, which gave me -36.8499116, 174.7649436
Threw that in to GMaps on my phone and it worked a treat :)

One way is to use Google Earth on the PC . Throw in the co-ords . Then it's save My Places and should be synced to the phone and other devices . Should you also use another app like a free one overseas without data use, you can save the file type using GE and open this file on the phone or tablet (for eg) and it should import the file or use the app's import func . GE can also look at other stuff while you are at it . . . . . and save more points or view a sat image .

For offline map, know you didn't ask but . .
Google is nice, you can cache areas in offline use prob for say Welly, that goes up near Masterton and right down to the bottom of Welly . No POIs thou, no routing of course, voice assist etc .

I like Mapswithme - the $5 version or so . . allows one to import POIs and it has a small database too . Mapswithme allows you to download entire country maps with a single click . No routing etc . . . though .

There is Orux more advanced but cannot download entire maps, more potential if you spend the time .

Thanks Chill, but can you give me the URL where I can find the GMaps app (for Android) please, as I can't seem to find it. Ta.

1348693 2013-07-12 04:56:00 It comes with your Android phone.

It's on the play store too if you want to update it:
play.google.com

Thanks so much, Chill. Very helpful. I'm a bit slow so it's taking me a wee bit to figure it out, but thanks for the head start. Should have it mastered soon.

Thanks for the other suggestions as well. I have always found this forum to be full of very helpful people. Thank you.

1348695 2013-07-15 23:34:00 If you go to the play store and search on GPS there are a huge number of options, and user ratings and comments to help decide if it's any good. Usually I just download a few apps and try them then delete the ones I don't like.

Normal android logic goes a bit like this;
I wish my phone could...
There's probably an app for that
Search the play store, find a bunch of apps, try a few

I'm still trying to figure out how to input coordinates into Google maps after seeing Chills post though.
