My mates on my gaming forum say a lot about Bittorrent, but as I understand it, it requires simultaneous uploads of the file you're downloading... which to my understanding is not only a drain on the download speed, but chews somewhat heavily into your bandwidth allocation. Is this correct? |

Is this > correct? If you dont share your files you are a leech. Kazaa users will spot you and stop your downloads, you may or may not still get what you want but it will take forever. EMule and Bittorrent require you to share your downloaded parts with others as its downloaded. In Emule they are called chunks which are about 9Mbs. Each downloaded chunk is then available for someone else to upload. Emule is a credit system the more you share the faster your downloads get. Bittorrent is even better, as long as you hav'nt got to many downloads going at once some popular files download in one continuous stream. e.g with Jetstream 256 about 1 Gb or more in 24 hrs. This could cost anything between 250Mb & 750Mb in upload bandwidth. The upload speed has only a small effect on the download speed if your setup is good. Its the old story. No such thing as a free lunch. |
