261169 2004-08-13 01:23:00 I have a celeron 2.6 with 256 of RAM with an intergrated graphics chip that allows me to dedicate between 4 and 64m to dedicated graphics.

I am looking to run some games that require a minimum of 256m of RAM with a minimum of 32m dedicated to the graphics.

So I am wondering whether I would be better off just increasing the RAM to 512 for the whole PC and then dedicating the full 64 on theintergrated chip or whether it'd be better to just install a seperate graphics card altogether with its very own dedicated RAM.

Unfortunaltey both together is not an option at this stage

261170 2004-08-13 01:40:00 Graphics card is always the best option.

Due to it having its own ram it isn't fighting the rest of the system over resources,giving you a snappier computer even when doing light weight tasks.

The video chipset will also be far more advanced then any intergrated device giving far superior performance in games.

Do you have an agp slot?

261171 2004-08-13 01:45:00 I believe I do.

Any recommendations for the graphics card to get then ? Budget is a bit of an issue though unfortunatley. Say, sub $200 if at all possible.

261174 2004-08-13 01:49:00 oh,they wont be sub-200 btw,Your better off waiting a week and saving a tiny amount more and getting a good card,the difference in performance is quite drastic. metla (154)

261177 2004-08-13 02:30:00 So just out of interest if choose to upgrade the RAM first and the graphics card at a later date, will the games graphics look pretty poor and shaky or is it just likely that the whole machine will run alot slower ? jon71 (6024)
261178 2004-08-13 03:20:00 adding ram and using the intergrated video will make em load faster,but won't enhance the game play or visuals .

Ram=15% benifit
Good video card=9000000000% benifit .

Ram and video . . . . . She be smokin .

Well,smokin as much as a celeorn can smoke .
