261384 2004-08-16 10:06:00 Hey Guys - enough is enough.

zqwerty & Growly>
How about just letting this go.

261385 2004-08-16 10:12:00 I rest my case let the jury decide. zqwerty (97)
261386 2004-08-16 10:20:00 What happened to:

"Sticks and stones may break my bones, but words will never harm me"
zqwerty (97)
261387 2004-08-16 10:37:00 What?

Hahahah! I'm not upset, nor angry, nor sad, nor annoyed!

See? See what words have brought us?

I have no quarrel here, no spite.

Which brings me onto another point - what does it matter? Really? Ultimately the moderators are gonna read this, blame me for all of it (and probably rightly so), and either a) ban or b) forgive me.

As far as I'm concerned, I can now write an essay on how society degrades itself over time - and how perhaps I am at fault by even beginning to think that the situation could be controlled.

I'm just way too arrogant.

261388 2004-08-16 10:48:00 Each individual should control him/herself and take responsibility for their actions and the consequences thereof.

Epicurus believed that the greatest good was to seek modest pleasures such as tranquility and freedom from fear through knowledge.

For Epicurus, the highest pleasure (tranquility and freedom from fear) was obtained by knowledge, friendship, and living a virtuous and temperate life. Epicurus did not articulate a broad system of social ethics

Not overall control.

261389 2004-08-16 20:19:00 I don't want to lock this.

Why do people have an expectation that someone with an opposing view will change it as a result of a hurriedly constructed post?

Bear in mind that all companies have a legal obligation to maximise profits and therefore value to their shareholders. If they do anything that results in anything else, they are down the road. We should expect nothing else. They may be wrong in their approach now and again, but their aim is still very clear.

Similarly, we don't expect Labour to concede when National has a good idea, we don't think the Bok's played really well when the All Blacks lose, and we don't tell the Doctor that it wasn't their fault when they fail to diagnose meningococcal disease.

It's how things work.
Play nice.

261390 2004-08-16 20:40:00 The most important thing Growly, is did you enjoy "Blue Moon"? Terry Porritt (14)
261391 2004-08-16 21:06:00 Good point, Terry.
Back to basics.
The song was there before Telecom existed - and will no doubt be around long after it's gone.

261392 2004-08-16 23:06:00 Do I ignore this..................? Nope, can't help myself.

Growly: two points -

1 Your second post in your own thread was personal and rude. You could have expressed yourself in a neutral tone.

2 You (and I) may disagree with Zqwerty. What he considers plainspeaking could also be characterised as rude. Nevertheless, if you look past that, Zqwerty has some very good points. He backs up his argument. Did you follow the link to the article on conservatism and liberalism?

There are actually some very good posts in this thread, which should make all off us think a bit more. Try to ignore the odd flame - although it is difficult I know, and learn from the different points of view.

One of the reasons I like this forum is the variety of highly intelligent people. Enjoy your chance to exchange views with them.

Have a good day. :D

261393 2004-08-17 05:36:00 I have said it once and I will say it again;

I am a hypocrite .

Understood?

How clear do I have to make this?

- I do not intend to change people's opinions
- I do not intend to incite anger
- I do not intend to be criticised

I understand that you may think that it is all well and good for me to sit here and dish out rules by which I think I should abide as all, and then to go ahead and break them in my second post . . . but:

> 1 Your second post in your own thread was personal and rude . You could have expressed yourself in a neutral tone .

Really? I'm sorry, did you think I was being sarcastic?

Did you note that the person on the receiving end of my comment also made an extremely rude - and pathetic statement (I make no apology for this description)?

I hate to admit it, but this has gone too far!

> 2 You (and I) may disagree with Zqwerty . What he considers plainspeaking could also be characterised as rude . Nevertheless, if you look past that, Zqwerty has some very good points . He backs up his argument . Did you follow the link to the article on conservatism and liberalism?

Yes . Yes I did follow that link . Yes, I did bookmark it .

What astonishes me is that no matter how often I tried to say that I just don't care anymore, stop criticising me!

I was minding my own business, had said what I had to say, had mentioned that I am not really in this thread to make a point anymore .

It is for this reason that I thought providing support for my argument was futile - hence there is nothing written by anyone else to support me other than what can be found in these posts .

But then, out of nowhere:

> Your simple point of view is very dangerous one if you are sincere if you are not sincere then you are a troll . Try some authenticity for a change .
>
> Either way you loose .

I never did quite get what that was for .

Then I saw this:

> Well that is rather sad Growly . Why don't you do something more positive on this forum rather than try and induce flamewars purely for your own entertainment . This sort of activity then brings down the whole keep-it-friendly tone of PF1 .

Am I being blamed for the habits of people on PressF1 to insult and criticise?

Because I post controversial posts - am I to blame?

If everyone but me is so mature then why don't they let my posts just . . . go away? Do I give the impression that I do this for fun?

Was it because I said I'm studying how long it takes for that to happen? And what, you're going to make it happen and then blame me?

But wait, there's more - my schooling is being criticised:

> Guess you got taught at school that any point of view is valid no matter what it is just as long as you hold it .
>
> Welcome to the real world .

This to me means that my point of view is not right just because I think it . I could say the same to him, but that would be childish . I then mention free speech - and that it is a right untill it hurts someone (which it hasn't done) .
At this stage I realise that people have forgotten that I no longer wish to prove a point .

Then

> You have already admitted you are trolling .

What is trolling, how have I admitted it, and why is it relevant?

And I said later that

> I am at fault by even beginning to think that the situation could be controlled .

Now, I meant that I thought that people would not let it get to this - not that I can myself do it .

Then we have a nice

> Bear in mind that all companies have a legal obligation to maximise profits and therefore value to their shareholders .

That is my point . That is all my point . Infact, that was my point till I realised that there was no point (:)) in continuing .

Sure, I may be immature, young, and uneducated - and naive, arrogant, ignorant, obnoxious, self-centred, attention seeking and whatever else .

Once again, I am really really sorry I posted this . I wasn't aware that this thread would become so dead serious . Where's the humour? Where's the attempt to lighten things up? Where's metla?

For some reason it was insisted that I was arguing - I was merely defending myself and reiterating all the points I have just mentioned .

Feel free to keep criticising me for some reason should this post not be explanatory enough - I deserve it I guess .
