I've got several IDE hard drives that I would like the option of having them all in one machine, however I do not want them in a RAID type setup. Possible? Or should I just get a plain old IDE controller card (that offers 4 more IDE ports)?

261184 2004-08-13 10:56:00 It depends on the card really.
You can use a PCI raid card as just a IDE controller, just don't
build the raid arrays, so if you get a card with 4 IDE channels, you can
have 4 HDD's and they would come up as 4 separate drives in windows.
So I guess you may as well get a raid card in case you decide to
build a raid array later on.

If I have an IDE or RAID card with, say, 4 channels, does this mean I can use the 4 (Primary slave/master, secondary slave/master) on my motherboard as well as the 4 on the IDE/RAID card (giving a total possible of 8)?
