| 261034 | 2004-08-12 22:32:00 | I operate in XP-SP1 on a Pentium 4, running at 2.8Ghz and with 512Mb ram. I am totally frustrated with a problem which has developed recently. When I power down I seem to lose all fonts from the Font folder. When I re-boot, the system defaults to s Symbol set, so I am presented with "chinese" on my screen. I have discovered how to read this mess to get into to Control Panel and reload all fonts and so get going again- that is until I have to power down again. I have found System Restore is not restoring me to a previous mode when the fonts were stable. I would greatly appreciate any help in overcoming this problem. By the way I have mcaffee virus checker and firewall running all the time along with Ad-ware SE6. Bob |

Do not type the quotes, and make sure ther is a space between SFC and /scannow. If you get the command correct a dialogue box appears and the process will take a few minutes, you may be asked for your XP disk unless it was a pre-installed version. Not always though. That "repairs" all the system files and is a good first stage recovery process. |
