I prefer to think that I live in the North Island . Others live in the South Island . .

Some live in Stewart Island .

That big Island over to my left if I face North can become West Island can it not?

261523 2004-08-14 12:30:00 Changing the flag sucks for the simple reason Kiwis died fighting for it.
They have given the Boers,Italians, Vichy Frogs,Germans, Hungarians, North Koreans, Indonesians, Gooks, Timor militia a good good hiding over the years. The Turks are the exception they gave us an ass whipping for invading their country.
I dont give a stuff about the Canadians changing their flag. THe cold weather makes their brains slow. They are just closet yanks, speak like yanks, drive on wrong side of road.
Change the flag you might as well go the whole hog give up on celebrating ANZAC day might as well blow up all the war memorials around NZ as well.
Go trample on their war graves.

I can certailnly understand that we are not an outpost of the UK...

Until we get rid of the Governer General and become a Republic and have Auckland State, Waikato State, Taranaki State etc and have President Helen or President Don or whomever I would like to see the flag remain. The current one that is.

If all provinces become States then of course each State can have its' own rules. So in Southland State it may be legal to carry a firearm but not in Auckland State. You can eat Paninis as long as you aren't outside a BP service station on Stewart Island. Where will it all end?

I hope you all see where I'm coming from.

At this point in time Auckland seems to have divided into States like Waitakere and Manakau.

I just prefer New Zealand to have just one set of rules for all legal residents. I do not care what colour or origin these people have so long as they are here legally.

This is an understandable, but erroneous view . NZ soldiers died fighting for the version of civilisation they believed in . Generally, open democracy .

The flag could have had a whale and a sheep on it - would have meant the same . A flag is a symbol . There is no disrespect to those who shall not grow old if we change today . ANZAC Day will continue and probably grow .

Surely the flag is a symbol of some signficance, that flag carriers of old would testify, they most certainly died for it.

I vote that we forget about the flag and try to get to the bottom of how these computers work;)

The worst thing is having separate states, look at Aussie, over Governed, Taxed & Red taped . Although I would like to see Auckland as 'independent' & our taxes raised stayed here (We could have electric trains next week then, & have tax cuts!) i think from a practical point of view we couldn't have States or (real) Provinces . We can't support them, & in a country this size couldn't justify them .

Just my thoughts for now
