261413 2004-08-14 01:53:00 Sometime around 7 AM I turned on the telly and a few seconds later the Kiwis marched by. Musta been ESP or sumtin that got me to look at that exact time. ;)

Anyway, I personally found it inspiring to see so many nations represented by such healthy and good-looking people. Sure beats watching the boring suits sitting at the UN General Assembly. :^O

261414 2004-08-14 02:50:00 I also thought it was funny how the Palestine flag-bearer was making the peace symbol (two fingers)... did anyone see if the Israel flagbearer did the same?? :)

It was good to see North and South Korea unite as one nation, even if it was just for the Opening Ceremony: I've heard that if a athlete from North Korea wins a medal, he/she has won it for North Korea, not Korea. Vice versa for a South Korean athlete.

261416 2004-08-14 03:23:00 Great to see that some people still care about the Olympics.

Personally I have difficulty mustering much enthusiasm. I find the obsession of the media with medal tables a complete turn-off. Focusing on this one aspect of a wonderful elite competition drains all the joy and excitement we should feel. Inevitably our shallow commentators measure New Zealands medal results against the rest.

We are a nation of 4 million up against nations with tens and hundreds of millions to pick athletes from. So forget the countries. Celebrate and be awestruck by the individual performances of supreme athletes. Thats the wonder and glory of the Olympics for me.

Rant over. Just had to share that.

Go the All Blacks.

261418 2004-08-14 03:50:00 >if you don't want crap adverts, get SkyTV

Wtf? I get Sky, not saying how ;) ]:)

But it has LOTS of ads, only a little less than free to air.

Okay okay, live things & movies had to ads but thats about it.
