261460 2004-08-14 03:27:00 It's a while since I've played with Samba, but I found smbclient -L <hostname> useful when debugging. (On the Mandrake server, smbclient -L localhost should work). Graham L (2)

Can Mandrake access the XP box OK then? I believe Mandrake 9.2 ships with a firewall, and this may be blocking XP's access to samba. Have a look under the Mandrake Control Centre at the firewall settings and make sure Samba is selected.

If neither box can see each other, try running testparm from a console window which will validate the smb.conf file. Also try the command smbstatus to make sure the samba service is running.

I presume both boxes can ping each other?
