The "dialing screech" appears normal, but the time to "verify user name and password" is mutiple times longer than other machines I use...... a test showed in excess of 15seconds. A similar problem on another machine running w98, proved to be the "log on to network" setting.....that was easily fixed and reduced the "verify" time from 45seconds to just a few seconds. My computer runs w2k..... so the settings are different.......Possibly something to do with network settings? Numerous web searches have not un-earthed a solution. Please accept this challenge to cure its' misbehaviour!! 800mghz, w2k, lucent winmodem with ver8.28 driver, irq9, no init string, com3......ph and modem options>advanced>..has 5 "providers" listed. |

| 262215 | 2004-08-19 22:42:00 | Spyware?.....I run adaware about once a week......also have run spybot occasionly...(using latest updates). Viruses?.....Have run online scanners including norton, trendmicro, bitdefender and avg.....probably check once every 4-6weeks. I download the latest virus definitions before scanning entire computer with all options ticked (scan memory, etc) Connection speed?.....dialup icon indicates 52k normally....occasionally, it slips to 48k or so............Real download speed as tested by pcpitstop is around 41k on average. Recent event?....no.....more than 6 months. Also I have the latest updates from microsoft. Hope this helps |
