| 261949 | 2004-08-15 05:07:00 | I have an XP Pro (SP2) machine networked with Win 2000 (SP4). It used to work fine (ie I could browse each machine from the other), but one day it just stopped, and now I cannot. I can ping each IP address, but cannot ping machine names. It stopped working before I installed SP2 on XP, so I can rule that out as a possible cause. Any ideas how to get my XP machine and 2k machine talking to each other again? I can play network games on them both no problem, I just can't "see" the other from Network Places etc. Mike. |

Either way, just make sure one as 192.168.0.1 or whatever thru the LAN icon, and point the other to it. ie: 192.168.0.2 whatever subnet 255.255.255.0. And preferred DNS server 192.168.0.1 whatever. And on the XP PC tick simple file sharing. And if SP2 is now installed disable it if u have another firewall. It'll stop the 2 from seeing each other, if u dont add ports to it. |
