261988 2004-08-15 12:14:00 Thanks for that Metla, I'll head back to pricespy and keep looking!! lol, thanks again!! davidb (5576)
261989 2004-08-15 12:17:00 Oh, one more thing, I don't suppose you could offer advice on a proven mother board too - around mid-price range so with decent features (RAID, SATA etc)? I've always been a gigabyte or soltek user but open to suggestions davidb (5576)
261990 2004-08-15 13:49:00 I feel like I'm channeling, um, someone else but...

Flag the computer upgrade, neither being a student, nor getting married is cheap.
You will get a better 'return' on your money by saving it, or at least spending it elsewhere.

261991 2004-08-15 13:56:00 I doubt the advice "don't spend money on computers" will be taken onboard around here.....seeing as its a computer forum after all. metla (154)
261992 2004-08-15 19:20:00 yeh that's a pretty reasonable system you have there the only reason I coudl possibly see for upgrading it would be to play the 'newer' more demanding games.........hell of a cost for a toy in that sense. The pc would do any 'work' (word processing etc etc) perfectly well. Now if you are getting married how would you feel if your fiance spends say $2000 on an unnecessary toy ? WEll its' your life ......... drcspy (146)
261993 2004-08-15 21:46:00 The guy asked for advice on a cpu,not on how to live his freakin life.

If i was him id flame the hell out of both of you for pure arrogance.

261994 2004-08-15 23:18:00 <I want to upgrade to something that will still allow me to "work" through next year>................................. drcspy (146)
261995 2004-08-15 23:20:00 Winklepickers are cool. metla (154)
261996 2004-08-16 00:29:00 I know it's a "reasonable" system already as I built in 2002 and have been in the process of upgrading since day one!! And I also don't know where the $2000 price tag came from - and if my partner bought something and it was money she'd put aside for it especially, who am I to complain!?! And like you said my life .

Also, drcspy, you missed the vital part of that part of the post; "work" (read: play games) .

And while I appreciate the advice on saving, it's not relevant at all to this post (and my savings are setup fine thanks!!) .

261997 2004-08-16 06:30:00 Yes, you are right metla.

I am sorry davidb, for being so presumptuous.
