262368 2004-08-16 22:54:00 Hi

I have a new computer with a Aldatron PX865PE pro motherboard with on board USB. When I install a new USB device the device works fine untill I reboot the computer, then XP starts up but before the desktop is displayed I get a black screen for about 3mins then a blue screen flashes up for less than a second then the machine restarts. If I unplug the USB device I just installed then the machine will boot OK.

Any ideas?

262369 2004-08-16 23:05:00 To stop your computer automatically rebooting on a BSOD, do this:

Right click on the My Computer Icon and go Properties > Advanced. Under Startup and Recovery click settings and then untick the box that says "Automatically restart". This will stop your computer rebooting and will display the error message on the blue screen. Hopefully this error message will give some clues to what is causing the problem.

Is your XP fully up to date with patches and service packs?

262372 2004-08-17 00:08:00 What is this USB device? Have you got the latest drivers for it? The BAD_POOL_DEVICE error can relate to drivers. See here (www.microsoft.com) for details. Jen C (20)
262373 2004-08-17 00:13:00 The device is a HP PSC 1315 which is brand new pmutton (4092)
262374 2004-08-17 00:30:00 Had a look at the HP site for your all in one printer and the only patch they have is for a hpcmpmgr.exe shut down error.

Try unplugging the device, uninstalling the driver software using Add/Remove and then reboot the machine with the device still unplugged. Now reinstall the drivers first and when it prompts you, plug in the USB cable and carry on following the rest of the steps. See if this makes a difference. You can find full installation instructions here (h10025.www1.hp.com).

262375 2004-08-17 05:53:00 Have tried installing several times but no luck

In the end I disabled USB 2.0 support in the bios and that fixed it!!

Thanks for your help

262376 2004-08-17 05:59:00 Thge idea would be to get Windows to assign new drivers to the usb ports, which is probally what restricting them to usb has done.

I would sugest re-enabling usb2 suport, and if needed going into device manager and removing the usb ports and then rebooting.

Did you load all the drivers from the motherboard cd?

262377 2004-08-17 06:03:00 I think i will leave it as it is because it works.

I downloaded the chipset drivers from the Intel website as it do not have the CD, presume this has the USB drive in it
