262312 2004-08-16 12:20:00 I loaded XP SP2 (beta release - RC2) on a machine a while ago. Now, what shall I do? Do I have to uninstall the Beta release and install the official release?

Cheers

262313 2004-08-16 12:23:00 I just loaded the final XPSP2 without removing the beta release, and all is fine. godfather (25)
262314 2004-08-16 12:24:00 no you dont have to remove the RC2 version.

just roll the full version over the top and all will be good.

I have seen no diffrance between the RC2 version and the final version but it is best to install the final version to be safe.

I installed a Beta release while while back then reformatted the hard drive then re-installed WinXP and chucked Service Pack 1 on.

I installed SP2 over my WinXP SP1 and had no problems.

From what I can figure you can just install the RTM version of SP2 over the Beta release.

There is about 20 odd mb difference between the 2.

262317 2004-08-16 22:31:00 Well, my Beta RC2 is working fine. Can I create a Restore point before loading the Released SP2 just in case something should go wrong? Or I can just uninstall it?

Cheers

I would think that would be ok

262319 2004-08-17 00:43:00 XP should always create a restore point automatically before running and installing the updates.

Mine does, always has.

Are you saying that yours does not create a restore point automatically?

262320 2004-08-17 01:27:00 Shouldn't need it. :D This is the product of Microsoft's new emphasis on security and stability. So it's perfect. Isn't it? ]:) Graham L (2)
