2004-08-16 11:26:00 | Hi people, A wee query, I have a Template on a floppy disc of a certificate and it was done in MS Works. Now the problem is that I no longer have MS Works on my system. Is there a way in which one can open the template in OpenOffice. Cheers merlin-nz ;-) Oh btw I do still have MS Works OEM disk that came with the puter but for some strange reason it wont completely reinstall, it keeps saying that it cant find some file and I cant seem to remember at the moment exactly the name, but will find out tomorrow. So basicly I cant install it

2004-08-16 11:38:00 | How large is the file size. You could email it to me and I have Works on one of my boots. I could try to convert it if you wish. Send to: verne at fan dot com Max size 4 meg attachment.

2004-08-16 11:50:00 | Open Office should open it in a snap Merlin. Re MS Works no longer installing, it's not an upgrade disc is it? in which case it would be looking for an eligible MS product. Cheers Murray P

Do you remember which version of MSWorks was used to create the template? > Now the problem is that I no longer have MS Works on > my system . > > Is there a way in which one can open the template in > OpenOffice . I can't help at all with the OpenOffice . We collectively may help you with an install of MSWorks which may be your best option . Your template may have linked graphics which will not be converted easily when it comes to exporting and importing files especially in RTF or TXT files . |

2004-08-16 13:48:00 | Good to see it's resolved . Hmm, bugging me that OO could not open it . OO opens Word documents from within Writer ok by selecting Text documents from the drop down list (much like any MS Office app options to open/save) . That should open just about any text type document . Do you have the choice to Open With in the right click menu? I'm not sure what the filter is you are talking about, could be because there have not been any pre-defined defaults (was that an oxymoron??) in the set-up/options for OO and Writer . I could be totally wrong though, it might be something specific to the Windows version of OO which I haven't tried yet, just the Nix version . Cheers Murray P

2004-08-17 00:55:00 | Hi team I Right click the File and choose Open or Open with <MS Word/Open Office or MS Works Word processor> . I am then fronted with a screen <Filter Selection . > MS Works is on the puter but . . . . nothing in the Program on the Start menu found I had installed it on E: partition not on the C: partition, right clicked on the Task Launcher file and get: <Works Task Launcher cannot find one of the files necessary to display tasks . Try reinstalling Works to replace the file, and then start the Task Launcher . > Works then opens but there is no tasks or blank page to start with . But if I open an already saved Works file the file opens and I can then click on New and get a New Document page . Strange . !!! So i try to uninstall Works through the uninstall program and it gets to a stage where it says: <Setup is unable to find the Works service file . > I then click on the OK button I then get: <Canceling the Installation Wizard The installation wizard was intuerrupted before MS Works 2000 could be completely . To install MS Works at a later time, insert the disc into the disc drive . On the the windows taskbar, click on Start button, and click Run . In the Open box type the name of the other disc drive you are using, followed by setup . exe (for example, G:/setup . exe) . To exit the Installation Wizard, click Finish . > I can do nothing??? I tried to reinstall, it goes throgh the installation process, puts a shortcut on the Desktop and then it comes up with: <Setup is unable to find the works service file . > I click on OK, It the comes up with the same screen as before about reinstalling at a later time bah blah blah . . . . . Is that of any help and is there a way that I can find or install a service file, if it missing or just lost??? . But Murrary I am a little confused about the <Filter Screen> as well, and I just installed version 1 . 1 . 2 from the last PC Word CD . If I can ever get a screen shot I did get one and put it in Paint program but when I go to upload it to sal . neoburn, I must be doing something wrong in that department . cheers merlin-nz ;-)
