262391 2004-08-17 00:50:00 Microsoft has taken steps to stop its security update for Windows being shared on file-swapping networks .

The SP2 update for Windows XP was being used by file-swapping activists to show how such systems can help get large, important files to lots of users .

But legal warnings from Microsoft have forced the file-swappers to end their experiment and stop making the software available to downloaders .

Now the only place people are able to get the update is from Microsoft . . . . . . Read the rest Here ( . bbc . co . uk/2/hi/technology/3561430 . stm" target="_blank">news . bbc . co . uk)

262392 2004-08-17 01:09:00 I see it has dissappeared from the Jetstreamgames FTP as well. CYaBro (73)
262393 2004-08-17 01:10:00 Hmmm ... SP2 has now vanished from the Jetstream games server as well! Glad I grabbed it the other day.

I guess they are worried about tampered files when the download is not under their control. BitTorrent is certainly a good way of distributing large files without overloading the servers. Some Linux ISO's are only available via BitTorrent as the distributor cannot or will not afford/cope with heavy traffic otherwise to their servers. They see no security issue with this.

262394 2004-08-17 02:50:00 We should all face Redmond and bow three times. M$ is doing it's bit to stop viruses by slowing down the spread of SP2 :^O How ironic.
