262931 2004-08-18 08:09:00 ADSL Router/Modem feeds jetstream to my home pc on WinXP and my laptop on Win98, both computers can share the internet. however, they do not see each other on the local net.
Things I have done/tried.......
Both computers have same workgroup, different computer names.
Have run Network Wizard on both machines.
Have tried "obtain IP address auto" as well as "assign Ip address"
Have switched off my ZoneAlarm firewall.

Anything else I should do/try?
Thanks

262933 2004-08-18 08:27:00 On your Windows 98 machine, do you log on before attempting to access the network? (Like when windows starts up). Growly (6)

262936 2004-08-18 08:56:00 I am no expert but ....

Cured this issue with two desktops set up one XP and the other 98se and an ADSLmodem just two weeks ago. Lots of fiddling but I made it.

First go to PCWorld site and find article "When computers disagree". It is excellent. And will take you through a series of checks.

However I suspect your problem is in sharing section. Make sure you have sharing enabled on each computer and there is only one share name for each computer.

Good luck

Leon

Then ensure that your firewall (Zone alarm??) is aware of the other computer and lets you pass data. Each computer should have seperate firewall.
