2004-08-18 05:48:00 | I have just bought a new PC and upgraded to Windows XP. I was successfully running Agfa ScanWise software (SnapScan 1212 usb scanner) in Win 98 on my old PC, but it can't get it to work in the new system. I have visited the Agfa website and downnloaded the relevant scanner driver updates and ScanWise updates, but continue to get the message "Please connect or switch on your scanner" when I try to start ScanWise. Any suggestions as to what I can try next?

2004-08-23 00:19:00 | Thanks to Jen C and Scouse for your suggestions . Unfortunately neither have resolved the problem . Before posting this query I had already visited the digicam site and downloaded the driver updates - but to no avail . I tried running the compatibility wizard but it simply asked me to "Connect or Switch on your scanner" . . . back to square one! Any other ideas?

2004-08-23 04:27:00 | It pays to start at the beginning, Check that your USB is working. To do this, press the 'Windows" key and 'Pause/Break'. Select the 'Hardware' tab and click the 'Device Manager' button. Click the + next to 'USB Controllers and double click the relevant item, then click 'Troubleshoot. If it is working, then try removing the scanner hardware, and restarting your computer. Plug and Play should recognize and install the scanner; if it doesn't then try doing it from the Control Panel, Add Hardware utility. Vince | Vince (406) | |
2004-08-26 23:44:00 | Thanks Vince. I went into the Device Manager / USB controllers bit as you suggested. Trouble is, there are lots of files (or whatever they are): * 4 x Intel (R) 828019B USB universal host controllers (24D2, D4, D7 and DE). * 1 x standard enhanced PCL to USB host controller * 5 x USB root hub I clicked the properties of each, to be told there were no problems. How do I find out which one is relevant to my scanner?

2004-08-26 23:56:00 | Some of the comments from the web on this scanner under XP suggest that you are not alone. scan speed and quality is good, but the software (snapscan 1.4 as well as the updated 2.0) is very unstable under windows XP Software does not work with Windows XP. Nor it is not recognized by the computer. Older hardware such as this can be almost impossible under some XP installations.

2004-08-27 09:19:00 | I have the exact same model - using Scanwise 1.2 under XP Pro - no problems for the last 2-3 years. Is it possible your scanner is on the blink? Try it on another PC... | xtraka (1984) | |
